Here’s sixth grader Maddie singing “Workin’ Overtime” by Lainey Wilson. Maddie loves twangy country songs AND musical theater tunes. I think that learning to lay on such a thick country accent has actually helped her learn to play characters as she sings. Whether she’s singing songs from Tyler Childers or from Epic, she understands the importance of shaping her voice to suit the song. Experimenting with different styles is such a fun way to develop vocal control - with ease and lots of giggles along the way. As of last week, Sound House is officially 5 years old! 🥳 Our boy Caleb of local band StriVe came into the studio with a heavy heart one night, ready to write a song honoring his friend. He didn’t get to say goodbye. I asked him, “If you could’ve said goodbye, what would you have said?” His response: “If I could get one thing through, I’d probably just tell you I love you.” I believe that songs can reverberate beyond our understanding. I believe that a song can be a goodbye. I loved seeing your happy faces at the holiday singalong tonight! On Saturday, we went to see Sound House friend Niamh Kierans perform with UVA’s University Singers and the Charlottesville Symphony at their annual holiday concert. Traces of snow, foggy festive glow, cozy Cabell Hall, cheerful buzz about. Of course, Damian threw snowballs at light posts.
