Maddi’s Growth Notes
Musicians studying at Sound House are like happy plants in super soil: they’re growing like crazy. I’m so proud of everyone on stage tonight, and I want to highlight examples of each student’s exceptional personal progress. As you scroll through this program, look out for my Growth Notes.
5:30 PM
Jamie Christian
“Ghost Riders In The Sky” by Johnny Cash
“St. Louis Blues” (traditional)
“Ballad of Boot Hill” by Johnny Cash
Growth Note: Jamie began lessons June 2021. She was once a very quiet student, but this year she’s blossomed into quite the noise-maker, singing and playing live at three shows within the past month.

Jamie Christian is a guitarist and vocalist from Culpeper. She started lessons at Sound House in 2021 when she was ten years old. Now, almost 16, Jamie plays mainly cowboy songs – yeehaw! Her favorite country artist is Johnny Cash, and her favorite song is currently “(Ghost) Riders in the Sky,” which she will be performing at the Showcase. You can find her at @dudad127 on Instagram.
5:45 PM
Contentious Flowers
with Julianne Carr
“Awake My Love” by Mumford & Sons
“Little Lion Man” by Mumford & Sons
“By And By” by Caamp
Growth Notes: Bec Westmoreland started learning guitar from scratch at the beginning of last year. Since then, Bec has played multiple shows and started a band. Charlotte Neale, who just started taking lessons in January 2025, is learning to play banjo for real, digging into traditional tunes like “Cripple Creek” while also learning popular Americana songs for Contentious Flowers… and she’s singing on stage tonight!

Contentious Flowers is an indie folk band made up of Liberty High School sophomores Charlotte Neale and Becca Westmoreland. Their shared love for music began back in sixth grade when they first picked up their middle school band instruments – Charlotte on trombone and Becca on clarinet. Since then, they’ve performed a short etude together, participated in various Liberty bands, and developed a strong musical bond. Becca has been learning guitar for about a year and a half, performing at the 2024 Sound House Showcase and playing rhythm guitar for StriVe, while Charlotte began taking banjo lessons this past January. Inspired halfway through their freshman year by a performance from The Sunstones, the duo dreamed of starting their own band – and now that dream is finally becoming reality. Contentious Flowers brings a lively folk sound to the stage with their guitar and banjo duets, aiming to have a great time, get the crowd grooving, and grow as musicians along the way.
6:05 PM
Rosalie Schiller
“Dandelions” by Ruth B
“Deja Vu” by Olivia Rodrigo
“I Love You, I’m Sorry” by Gracie Abrams
Growth Note: Rosalie started taking lessons in July 2021. She can now confidently perform full songs, singing and accompanying herself on rhythm guitar. She’s matured a lot this past year, personally and musically.

Rosalie Schiller is an indie/pop singer and songwriter from Midland, VA. Currently a student at Auburn Middle School, Rosalie spends her time honing her skills as a multidisciplinary creator. She is a mixed media artist, using different styles and a variety of materials to create her works of arts. In addition to singing and songwriting, Rosalie has spent the last three years building her skills as a guitarist. Most recently she had expanded her talents to include saxophone. Returning to the Showcase after a two year hiatus, she hopes to delight goers with the musical stylings of Gracie Abrams, Ruth B., and Olivia Rodrigo.
6:20 PM
Allie Farnsworth
“Voodoo Doll” by Five Seconds of Summer
Growth Note: Allie started taking lessons in February of this year. Due to some setbacks with her instrument, Allie literally just got started really digging in on the bass, and she’s up here tonight playing a song solo and joining her brother’s band for a couple of songs.

Allie Farnsworth has been singing since she was young and recently picked up bass in order to join her brother’s band, StriVe. You can follow her on Instagram @Allllliesaurus0109.
6:25 PM
StriVe
with Jaina Witt
“Silver Lining” by Ace of Hearts
“You’re The One” (original)
“Sharks” by Imagine Dragons
“What You Know” by Two Door Cinema Club
“Bubbly” by Good Kid
“Don’t Forget Me” by Imagine Dragons
Growth Notes: Caleb Farnsworth has put together a full band and demoed out four original songs – all in little over a year of lessons. Josh Godowsky jumped into the community in a big way, drumming for both Blush and StriVe; he also grew from being shy about singing in front of anyone to singing at three public performances in May.

StriVe is a four-member pop rock band based in Bealeton, VA. They started practicing together in December of 2023, before performing in their first ever Sound House Showcase in April of 2024. Later that year, they also helped organize and headline the Love Out Loud concert held in honor of their band manager and close friend, Felix Reid. After a small lineup change, they are performing with singer-songwriter Caleb Farnsworth, lead guitarist Kai Marcano-Hunter, bassist Allie Farnsworth, drummer Josh Godowsky. With special help from bassist Jaina Witt, they hope to up their game and bring the audience a fun, energetic, and emotional performance at the 2025 Soundhouse Showcase.
6:55 PM
The Villains
“Orion” by Metallica
Growth Notes: Addison Murphy has devoted the past almost three years of her life to learning to play the guitar exceptionally well for her age. In the past year, she played on stage at the Remington Fall Festival with a band of adults, made it into the county and district jazz bands, and I’ve heard that Liberty High School’s music director Mr. Neidich is already looking forward to having her. Drummer Brooklynn Bushore was willing to support Addison’s wild goal to play an almost nine-minute long Metallica song and learned it in a month.

The Villains are a new band composed of frenemies Addison Murphy and Brooklynn Bushore. Addison is a thirteen year old shredder who has been studying at Sound House since fifth grade. Despite being forced into jazz bands lately, Addison’s first love (and true love) will always be metal. Brooklynn is a twelve year old drummer who first came to Sound House as a voice student. Recently, she’s revealed herself to also be a promising young drummer. The two have come together for an epic cover of “Orion” by Metallica at this, the fourth annual Sound House Showcase. Their wish is for you and your frenemies to form a circle pit and run until you create a tornado.
7:10 PM
Blush
“Like A Ritual” by Title Fight
“Good Good Things” by The Descendents
“How Does It Feel?” by Citizen
“Pulling Teeth” by Slow Joy
Original
“Fake Plastic Trees” by Radiohead
“Your Graduation” by Modern Baseball
Growth Note: Wes Garrett has done what only one student before him has done. For Halloween last year, he organized a DIY show without my help. He’s also making major progress with his singing voice, developing tone and range.

Blush (formerly Zero) is a post-hardcore band from Culpeper, VA comprised of Wes on lead vocals and guitar, Homer on bass, and Josh on drums. They blend emotional hardcore with elements from alt rock and shoegaze. You may have seen them perform recently at Vanguard Arts Center’s Spring Thing Community Fest. Their set for the 4th Annual Sound House Showcase may feature a brand new original song.
7:40 PM
Melody Larue
with Julianne Carr
“Try” by Nelly Furtado
“Brooklynn Baby” by Nelly Furtado
“Unfound” by Melody Larue
“Step On Me” by The Cardigans
“Honey” by Moxie
Growth Note: After The Sunstones played their last show, Melody Larue refocused her attention toward refining, recording, and releasing her own original music. She’s put out three singles and has another one coming out soon. She’s earning her place a star in the Sound House constellation.

Melody Larue is an indie pop/rock vocalist and bassist from Warrenton, the charming heart of the Piedmont region. Although only a junior in high school, Melody has been playing instruments and singing for many years. For a while she dabbled on piano, guitar, and clarinet, but now her main focuses are vocals – both lead and harmony – and bass, along with being a member of percussion in her high school band’s wind ensemble. Her father, a professional musician for many years, taught and supported her throughout her journey of instruments, especially bass. To expand further upon her musical knowledge, Melody began taking lessons with Maddi at Sound House in 2021. With performance experience under her belt from playing with her former band, The Sunstones, Melody is anxious to mount the stage once again. With two originals currently released and one on the way, you can expect to hear one of her originals during her performance at the 2025 Sound House Showcase. Her debut song, “doses”, introduces the idea of balance, whereas her most recent release, “unfound”, expands on the concept of feeling alone. Both the vocals and instrumentals on these singles will leave you with goosebumps when the song ends. Follow her on Instagram @melodylaruemusic.
