Announcement: Two Alix Shriver singles to be released with Sound House Record Makers

August 19, 2024

In June 2023, after about ten months of lessons here at Sound House, vocalist and musician Alix Shriver began co-writing his first original song ever. Our notes included references to “Portrait of a Blank Slate” by Lovejoy and “Older” by Alec Benjamin along with stream-of-thought bits like “senior year, leave all of my friends, a bunch of lasts, college pressure.” We sorted these concepts into song parts, wrote rhyming stanzas for each, and then worked to connect melodies and harmonies with our lyrics.

Alix and I recorded everything here at Sound House, including layers of guitar and clarinet. I actually recorded these clarinet parts with Alix before we recorded clarinet for The Sunstones’ song “Scrutiny,” which gave me a first opportunity to explore mic positions. You may have seen Alix performing the “Scrutiny” clarinet solo alongside Julianne Carr with The Sunstones at our 2024 Sound House Showcase earlier this year.

While Alix has retired from his lessons here at Sound House to study at Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA, we’re still planning to release two singles together in the coming months. The first single, “Future (Spiraling)” comes out on Saturday, August 31st at midnight – which just happens to be Alix’s 18th birthday too. I can’t tell you much more about the song until then, but you can get an early look at the cover art below. Yes, there’s a parental advisory sticker. This song utilizes the all-powerful and oft-scorned f-bomb three whole times. Beware, sensitive listeners!
