Sound House Newsletter #1
November 1, 2022
Hey there, Sound House friends!
Welcome to the first-ever Sound House Newsletter! These monthly emails are intended to communicate vital Sound House information with our growing community. I appreciate you taking the time to connect with me in this way because it’s now impossible for me to share this information with each person individually during lessons and sessions; we’re just getting too big for that.
Please carefully read over the whole newsletter. Of special importance are the “Important” and “Planning Ahead” sections. I request that each of you send me your holiday dates ASAP and fill out the two linked Google forms regarding events planning. I’d like to get an email from each and every one of you.
In the future, this newsletter will include an Upcoming Events section; feel free to send your upcoming performances for me to share with our community.
With gratitude and love for each of you,
Sound House will be closed the following days:
- Thursday, November 24th (Thanksgiving Weekend)
- Friday, November 25th (Thanksgiving Weekend)
- Monday, December 5th (Holidays w/ Nana in Mississippi)
- Friday, December 23rd (Christmas Weekend)
- Monday, December 26th (Christmas Weekend)
Additionally, I will need to miss the 3:00-4:00 PM lesson on Tuesday, December 6th. I’ll be contacting that student about rescheduling.
For us to run as efficiently as possible during the holidays, I would like to know everyone’s plans ASAP. Please send an email to let me know which dates you’re planning to be absent so that I can schedule accordingly well in advance.
Thank you for adapting to the new membership policy these past couple of months. As a reminder to the few who have yet to adjust, Sound House now requires advance payment for the month’s sessions. You can read the full plan here and make payments here.
For future community events, I have a couple of thoughts. Consider each and then let me know what you think using the Google Forms linked. Please note that if you are NOT interested, there’s a section for that on each form as well (and don’t worry; you won’t offend me).
We could do this a couple of ways:
- We could meet up to sing carols around Remington. I’ll make sure everyone’s prepared with a set list, and I’ll make lyric books for us to share on the night of.
- We could meet in smaller groups to play and sing festive songs together at Sound House. I’d likely organize these groups either by age or availability.
Please help me plan this event (or these events) by answering the questions on this Google Form: https://forms.gle/dyGdRfxrCNVWuu9S6.
Small Group Showcase(s) / Open Mic(s)
The 2022 Spring Showcase featured 16 of our community members, three hours of non-stop music, and a lot of scrambling on my part to keep it all together. I mentioned a 2022 Fall Showcase, but prioritized other responsibilities and did not make it happen. Now that we’re up to about 40 Sound House community members, to do showcase-like events will take some compartmentalization.
I think we should break into smaller groups by age and customize the location and style of each event accordingly. I think that for the sake of efficiency and ease, I’d like to keep these solo or duo performances.
Here’s an outline of what that could look like:
- Elementary and Middle School (10-15 total students) – Showcase at Bealeton Library Depot
- High School (10-15 total students) – Showcase at Bealeton Library Depot or open mic at Craft & Crust
- Adults (10 total local students) – Open mic at Craft & Crust
Here are some potential winter dates:
- December 9, 10, 16.
- January 14, 20, 21, 28.
- February 3, 4, 11, 17, 18, 25.
Please help me plan these events by providing your choice of event and your availability using this Google Form: https://forms.gle/Gk7i23ctbmYWJwcSA.
Remington Fall Festival
Thanks so much to each of you who made this day special! Sydney the Skeleton held down the fort at our Sound House informational booth. The Sunstones performed the closing set. Plenty of our Sound House community friends came out to support. Read more about the event and see photos here.
Frankenstein Field Trip
Thanks to the Packard Campus Theater and musician Ben Model for providing us such a one-of-a-kind experience. Thank you to Sound House friends Ella, Jamie, Krystal, Stephanie, and Craig for joining us. Read more about the event and see photos here.
Total Absences = 22 (including 5 on Halloween)
Total Lessons Taught = 109
Lessons Attendance = 83% (109 attended of 131 scheduled)
The number of absences is high this month. For context, there were only 12 absences in September. We’re aiming for at least 90% attendance for scheduled sessions.
Want to help the studio even more? Please leave us a 5-star review on Google! Thank you so much for taking a few minutes to let the world know that this is a good place to be. If you’re ever dissatisfied with your service here, please talk to me about it. I’m dedicated to taking care of each of you as best I can.
